The extent of racial Violence and harassment is unclear. 139,000 incidents were recorded in 2005/06 in the British Crime Survey but often many incidents occur before an official report is made. Only 38% of racially aggravated offences are cleared up: cautioned, prosecution or convicted. Many people develop strategies to cope with Violence and harassment, but the need for effective support and to ensure the 'victims perspective is not lost in the system' is essential.
